Training Update: VCF Plantation Training Programme – Batch 2

In preparation for the 2026 plantation season, a two-day Tree Plantation Training Programme was organised for Village Community Facilitators (VCFs) under the MegARISE Project. The training was conducted on 10–11 December 2025 at Pomlakrai Rngi Shyllong and was facilitated by the CMU Umiew team.

The CMU team, along with Bah R. Mawdong Rangslang, Junior Engineer (JE), Water Resources Department, conducted a joint field inspection at Rangsyuin Mawlmeng VPIC on 11 December 2025 to assess site feasibility for VLMAP activities.


Key outcomes of the visit included:

1. A total of seven (7) sites were inspected
2. Five (5) sites were found to be feasible for proposed interventions
3. Technical discussion and on-site guidance were provided by Bah R. Mawdong Rangslang

The Ganol-CMU team conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) at Ghatgre Village under Rerapara

On 11th December 2025, the Ganol-CMU team conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) at Ghatgre Village under Rerapara Block, South West Garo Hills District.


Various PRA tools were utilized to collect comprehensive village data, including Social Mapping, Resource Mapping, Seasonal Calendar, Historical Timeline, Problem Ranking, and SWOT Analysis.

On 11 December 2025, the CMU Umiew team conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) at Umlympung 12 Mer Village, located in Khatarshnong Laitkroh Block. The programme witnessed active engagement from the local community, whose enthusiastic participation throughout the PRA process ensured that the identified priorities genuinely reflected their needs and aspirations. 

 

The key proposed interventions discussed during the PRA included the construction of:

Retaining Wall
Spring Chamber

 

MegARISE held its Annual Review Meeting on 4–5 December 2025 at Ratson Pavillion, Mawlai Mawiong, Shillong.

The two-day review brought together teams from the catchments and SPMU to reflect on progress and outline the roadmap for 2026. The Deputy Project Director shared key sector updates, followed by presentations from CPMs and SPMU sectors on 2025 achievements, indicators, challenges, and plans for the coming year. The Procurement Specialist reported on procurement status, and the Technical Specialist presented the 2026 plantation update. Technical sessions covered the Silt Sedimentation Study (WRD Shillong) and Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (Project Scientist, INR-MBDA).
